The Old Testament has always been so detailed. Through revelation today we understand that the Old Testament is the New Testament concealed. And the new testament is the Old Testament revealed. If that seems confusing simply picture that the Old Testament gives extensive details and descriptions because it’s a type and shadow of what the New Testament is meant to fulfill. So much so that when scientist and other theologians go and look at prophecies that have become true in our modern world, they go to the Old Testament, primarily because the prophesies are still coming true.
Today we will look in the book of Genesis starting at the 39th chapter. Just for kicks, I want you to know that the first book or oldest book in the bible wasn’t Genesis. By date it was actually the book of a Job. You can actually see this through the chapters of Job based on the actual depiction of sea monsters, creatures etc. All in which we now are able to date due to Technology. And with the help of technology we have found the parallel stories of the Israelites coming to Egypt during a time of famine. So as society becomes older we actually realize more truths of the bible.

In chapter 39 of Genesis we see that Joshua has arrived in Egypt, and is sold as a slave or servant.
In Hebrew the name Joshua means;
To add more or bring increase. The name Potiphar means “he whom Ra gives”.
From the name alone we can see that Potiphar believed in a power outside of a monotheistic God. And yet… He could see “God” on Joseph.
AND JOSEPH was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain and chief executioner of the [royal] guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had brought him down there. But the Lord was with Joseph, and he [though a slave] was a successful and prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all that he did to flourish and succeed in his hand. [Gen. 21:22; 26:27, 28; 41:38, 39.] So Joseph pleased [Potiphar] and found favor in his sight, and he served him. And [his master] made him supervisor over his house and he put all that he had in his charge. (Genesis 39:1-4 AMP)
I wonder what kind of life Joshua was exuberantly showing to his master. That would make a none believe see something or a power that they’re too “dead” or “unbelieving” to see? How awesome it must of been to actually do anything and everything with such excellence that a non believer witnesses the Grace, Power and Prosperity of God in you?
In a secular world most people feel as though that they are unable to have exuberance for God. They point out that their code of ethics in the work place shun out all the abilities to advocate a relationship with Christ. However… One person that happen to be a slave… aka the lowest occupation possible was able to give an example of how great God was based on the excellence of his service/occupation. In other words he made his occupation his service and his service his ministry. If a slave can do it, is there any excuse for you or I? It doesn’t say that he pestered Potiphar to switch religions or worship. But he rather became an example, and his example lead to prosperity that all could see.
The primary definition for prosperity by dictionary.com;
1. a successful, flourishing, or thriving condition, especially in financial respects; good fortune.
That basically means having a success that is continuous, that increases more and more. This negated the thought of having a plateau.
So ask yourself, what made Potiphar a man who would be considered a heathen and spiritually dead, notice that “The Lord was with Joseph”???….
That everything in his hands prospered..
Therefore not him ministering to his children or other slaves, but the results of his performance.
What will make your friends and family members notice the change in your life and become Christians…. When you’re prosperous… When they witness the favor of the lord in and through you at all times. As they view how blessed you are and even in times of economic famine you’re reigning victorious as a king, through the abundance of Grace and the gift of Righteousness.
For if because of one man’s trespass (lapse, offense) death reigned through that one, much more surely will those who receive [God’s] overflowing grace (unmerited favor) and the free gift of righteousness [putting them into right standing with Himself] reign as kings in life through the one Man Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One). (Romans 5:17 AMP)
Well how do you make sure to be in the position that others will see the prosperity resting in you? …
Fellowship and guidance. Asking at all times, in constant communication with your key guide; The Holy Spirit.
Having the Holy Spirit as a guide is much like you electing to have him as your board of directors. You have communication and fellowship with him before you make decisions in your life.
Let’s use this scripture as an example;
BLESSED (HAPPY, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather. (Psalm 1:1 AMP)
The council is important, that means that you consider and speak with The Lord before making decisions. For a company, that means that the goals and desires of the CEO are preferred in front of the board of directors. Who letter advise or council the CEO in which direction he is to move the company forward. So although the CEO is the face or poster boy for the company it should always be the guidelines of the board of directors that he owners and obeys. Likewise, you are the CEO of your life, and The Father(God) is the board chairman, the Holy Spirit is the Advisory Council and Jesus is the Board, who advocated on your behalf to the Board Chair. Have you noticed that in the news of Wall Street Journal or other major publications that you never see or know who the advisory council or board chairs are for a company…..???
Unless…. You have a CEO who selfishly elects himself as the board chairman, doing this in a business sense is just as dangerous in a spiritual sense. Having no true guidance will always lead to true disarray. You must always consult your committee. That is what they’re there. In most corporations it is the committee who selects the CEO. Likewise it is the Father who has selected you for the task at hand in your life.
Once you seek his council the results are obviously good and prosperous. The more you become depend on the primary of your council the quicker you’ll prosper. This is a constant practice of depending on and trusting in this guidance. This will come as reviving a notion to do something or prepare for something, or possibly build for something that has never happen before. (Like Noah)
Here are examples;
But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night. [Rom. 13:8-10; Gal. 3:1-29; II Tim. 3:16.] And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity]. [Jer. 17:7, 8.] (Psalm 1:2-3 AMP)
Say to the righteous that it shall be well with them, for they shall eat the fruit of their deeds. (Isaiah 3:10 AMP)
This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success. (Joshua 1:8 AMP)
I’m sure by now we are aware of the key of making sure about meditating in the word, this a great way to have fellowship. But what about the guidance part?
Behold, I send an Angel before you to keep and guard you on the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared. Give heed to Him, listen to and obey His voice; be not rebellious before Him or provoke Him, for He will not pardon your transgression; for My Name is in Him. [Exod. 32:34; 33:14; Isa. 63:9.] But if you will indeed listen to and obey His voice and all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries. When My Angel goes before you and brings you to the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, and I reject them and blot them out, You shall not bow down to their gods or serve them or do after their works; but you shall utterly overthrow them and break down their pillars and images. (Exodus 23:20-24 AMP)
That in order for these people to reach their promise they would have to be lead or follow guidance.
But now go, lead the people to the place of which I have told you. Behold, My Angel shall go before you. Nevertheless, in the day when I punish I will visit their sin upon them! [Exod. 23:20; 33:2, 3.] (Exodus 32:34 AMP)
I think the question is, if there was an angel who did this for the Old Testament, does this still apply to us today?….. Yes…
As matter of fact this Angel or Holy Spirit is a result of Jesus. In Isaiah he speaks of the future and reveals who this Angel is;
In all their affliction He was afflicted, and the Angel of His presence saved them; in His love and in His pity He redeemed them; and He lifted them up and carried them all the days of old. [Exod. 23:20-23; 33:14-15; Deut. 1:31; 32:10-12.] But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit; therefore He turned to become their enemy and Himself fought against them. Then His people [seriously] remembered the days of old, of Moses and his people [and they said], Where is He Who brought [our fathers] up out of the [Red] Sea, with [Moses and the other] shepherds of His flock? Where is He Who put His Holy Spirit within their midst, (Isaiah 63:9-11 AMP)
Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.” (Mark 3:28-29 NIV)
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. (John 14:26 NIV)
The follows hip through the meditation brings forth the presence. The presence shall bring forth rest, which is prosperity without hurting or struggle.
Now therefore, I pray You, if I have found favor in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You [progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with You, perceiving and recognizing and understanding more strongly and clearly] and that I may find favor in Your sight. And [Lord, do] consider that this nation is Your people. And the Lord said, My Presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest. (Exodus 33:13-14 AMP)
It is his presence that brings the easy success. The presence, brings “the blessing”. Notice that on every account “Grace” or ” Favor” is found first. Then finally as a result of “the blessing” there is a rest. You should rest because you have the guidance and wisdom of the Father.
So Joseph pleased [Potiphar] and found favor in his sight, and he served him. And [his master] made him supervisor over his house and he put all that he had in his charge. From the time that he made him supervisor in his house and over all that he had, the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the Lord’s blessing was on all that he had in the house and in the field. And [Potiphar] left all that he had in Joseph’s charge and paid no attention to anything he had except the food he ate. Now Joseph was an attractive person and fine-looking. (Genesis 39:4-6 AMP)
The blessing of the Lord–it makes [truly] rich, and He adds no sorrow with it [neither does toiling increase it]. It is as sport to a [self-confident] fool to do wickedness, but to have skillful and godly Wisdom is pleasure and relaxation to a man of understanding. (Proverbs 10:22-23 AMP)
The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, without painful toil for it.
What the wicked dread will overtake them; what the righteous desire will be granted. (Proverbs 10:22, 24 NIV)
